Walmart has announced the closing of 269 stores globally, including 154 stores in the US. Walmart says the closing of 269 stores still only represents less than 1% of total properties and annual revenue.

Walmart says that 102 of the US stores they will be closing are Walmart Express stores. The Walmart Express stores are smaller, and have been in a testing phase since 2011. The company says that more than 95 percent of the closed stores in the U.S. are within 10 miles on average of another Walmart.

Doug McMillon, president and CEO's official press release -

Actively managing our portfolio of assets is essential to maintaining a healthy business. Closing stores is never an easy decision, but it is necessary to keep the company strong and positioned for the future. It’s important to remember that we’ll open well more than 300 stores around the world next year. So we are committed to growing, but we are being disciplined about it.

The list of locations being closed isn't available yet, but will be shortly. We'll update this story with the locations as soon as we get the information.
