Warriors Slay Hornets Behind Lee’s Big Night

The New Orleans Hornets (26-49) 5 game road swing didn’t begin well last night in Oakland, as they fell the Golden State Warriors (43-32) by the score of 98-88. The biggest difference-maker in the contest was David Lee. New Orleans simply had no answer for the All-Star, as Lee went for 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 assists, registering his league-leading 50th double-double.

Hornets forward Ryan Anderson (struggled) struggled to keep up with Lee, as did rookie Anthony Davis. Both players also struggled on the offensive end of the floor. Anderson, who averages 16.4 a game, finished with only 3 points, on 1-8 shooting. Davis, who has been a double-double machine as of late, could only muster 6 points on 2-11 shooting, though he did grab 9 rebounds.

“They switched, they blocked. They did a great job of knowing what we like to do and they really took us out of our offense,” explained Anderson. “They pressured us, and we didn’t respond very well. I think obviously they stepped it up.”

New Orleans got decent performances from 4 of their five starters, including Al-Farouq Aminu who finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. Aminu is set to be a free agent in the upcoming offseason, and is trying to impress his future employer. Whether or not it will be the Hornets is yet to be seen.

Eric Gordon scored a team-high 21, while Robin Lopez added 17. Greivis Vasquez finished with 15 points and 9 assists.

Next up for the Hornets, a desperate team in the Utah Jazz. Utah is a half game back of the Los Angeles Lakers for the 8 seed in the Western Conference playoff race. Tip-off Friday night from Salt Lake City is set for 8:00.
