The City of Lafayette Aquatics  is hosting a water safety awareness day this Sunday at the Robicheaux Center pool on Eraste Landry in Lafayette. The event begins at 1pm and will feature a day of fun and important information for kids and parents.

Learning how to be safe around the water is a top priority in Louisiana. With our abundance of creeks, bayous, rivers, ponds and coulees that can become raging torrents after a heavy rain, knowing how to swim is vital.

It is estimated that 10 people drown everyday across the United States. Many of those victims are children who were never given water safety instruction. The purpose of water safety awareness day is to teach parents as well as children basic safety information.

In addition to the safety information there will be prizes, food, games and other fun activities for everyone who attends. There is no admission charge.
