In America we drive on the right hand side of the road. In fact most of the world drives on the right hand side of the road. How did that happen? Was there some great epiphany that drivers had to shake them out of their British roots of driving on the left?

The answer is yeah kind of. Most British territories and former British colonies still mandate that roadway travel be done from the left hand side of the road. Here in America the reason for our right hand riding stems from the fact that most of us are right handed.

It seems that those driving Conestoga wagons to the west preferred to be on the left hand side of their animals so they could use their stronger right arms to steer and motivate their wagon teams. Hence the American way of driving on the right.
