This is something I have always wondered about windmills. How would they react in a strong storm or in our case a hurricane?

The idea of wind energy seems responsible enough if you ask me. The wind is free and we have the technology already in place to capture it and turn it into mechanical energy so why wouldn't we. Then comes the question of what happens we we get too much wind?

As you can see in this video clip, a windmill in a windstorm is not a pretty sight. I believe that most of the wind turbines, such as this one, have safety systems in place that actually protect the structure from spinning too fast or out of control in bad weather. In this case the safety systems were down and all hell breaks lose.
