What a scary story out of Grand Isle. A police officer patrolling the beaches there ran over a sunbather on Thursday.

The officer, who was driving a four-wheel drive Ford F-250 truck, was patrolling the beach. He completed his patrol and turned around to leave the beach.

During the initial patrol, the beach was empty. But before the officer returned to the brick-paved access point where he could leave the beach, a couple of women arrived at the beach to sunbathe. The officer was looking for the access point and didn't see the women. The truck rolled over one sunbather but the other was able to get out of its path.

The woman hit by the truck was airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans. She reportedly had moderate but not life-threatening injuries and was awake and talking.

The investigation is ongoing, but at this point no charges have been filed against the officer.
