Gloria M. Davidson of DeRidder was in the front seat of a vehicle not breathing. She had no pulse.

That was what Trooper Gary Smith was faced with as he was flagged down by several people standing in a parking lot off La. Highway 14 near 3rd Street in Lake Charles, shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

After checking for Davidson's pulse, Trooper Smith removed her from the vehicle, placed her on the ground and began administering CPR. Then, Corporal Benjamin Randolph of the Lake Charles City Police Department, got to the scene and took turns with Trooper Smith in administering CPR. Fortunately, Davidson responded and began breathing intermittently.

Acadian Ambulance soon arrived and, eventually, they were able to get Davidson to St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles, where she is currently receiving care.
