Work-Release Inmate, Girlfriend Charged With Trying To Sneak Drugs Into Lafayette Jail

SCOTT, La. (KPEL) -- A Lafayette Parish work-release inmate and his apparent girlfriend have been arrested after conspiring to sneak illegal contraband into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Scott Police say 24-year-old Raylan Melancon of Carencro arranged to meet with the woman, 24-year-old Hana Knott of Carencro, near where he would be working.

Police say Melancon somehow managed to get out of the supervisor's sight. However, a City of Scott employee observed him meet up with Knott and watched as she gave him a small amount of marijuana, superglue, magnets, and Velcro.

Scott Police arrived on the scene and found the items. Both Melancon and Knott were placed under arrest, Melancon on charges of simple possession and Knott on charges of distribution.
