We are in the thick of Mardi Gras season here in south Louisiana.

It's full-speed purple, gold, and green and king cakes and balls and parades. Well, you get the idea.

More and more over the years, this great holiday has been embraced by the rest of the country. A lot of cities outside of Louisiana have even begun celebrating Fat Tuesday.

Another thing I've noticed is that a lot of songs over the years make mention of this party holiday.

I got to thinking (and Googling) and below are some of the bigger country songs over the years that mention "Mardi Gras".

DIERKS BENTLEY - "DRUNK ON A PLANE"

Got a little mile-high flight attention
It's Mardi Gras up in the clouds

TIM McGRAW - "SOMETHING LIKE THAT"

It was five years later on a southbound plane
I was headed down to New Orleans
To meet some friends of mine at the Mardi Gras

TERRI CLARK - "I WANNA DO IT ALL"

Catch a few beads down at Mardi Gras
Start a tradition, lay down the law, I wanna do it all

WALKER HAYES - "YOU BROKE UP WITH ME"

Darlin' you can't crash my party with your 'Sorry's and 'What Are We's
Don't start rainin' on my Mardi Gras parade for a minute

CHELY WRIGHT - "BACK OF THE BOTTOM DRAWER"

Yeah, we went too far in his daddy's car
And those Mardi Gras beads from '98

Below is a list of other country songs that mention Mardi Gras but were never released as singles (basically, something you wouldn't have heard on the radio).

Brooks & Dunn - "She Likes to Get Out of Town"
Chase Rice - "You Ain't Livin' Yet"
Dierks Bentley - "Mardi Gras"
Joe Nichols - "Take Me Out of Tampa"
Rascal Flatts - "Play"
Thomas Rhett - "Sorry for Partying"
Walker Hayes - "Dollar Store"
Walker Hayes - "Mind Candy"
