Costco is known to have a very loyal fanbase — they're serious about finding the products they love at the lowest prices at the membership-only Goliath.

The store's signature products are under the Kirkland name, and when something Kirkland gets popular, they keep it around for a very long time. Well, usually — Costco has decided to pull one of their signature items and fans aren't thrilled.

What Happened to Kirkland Signature Chocolate Chips?

Costco shoppers are sounding off about Kirkland Signature Chocolate Chips after warehouses have apparently been replacing the beloved morsels with the Nestle brand.

Word of the switch-up hit the internet in a hurry, with one shopper taking to the Costco sub-Reddit to spread the word, and they have the receipts to prove it.

"They completely replaced the chocolate chips with Nestle!" the author writes.

Dozens of commenters responded in disappointment.

The main reason that people are upset at the Nestle replacement chips is they believe the Kirkland brand not only tastes better, but is also dairy free, coconut free and kosher.

One Reddit user writes: "I liked the Kirkland because there were certified kosher parve. I have a friend allergic to the proteins in dairy, and these were dairy-free. The bonus was zero coconut, which is my weird allergy."

"The original Kirkland chocolate chips were dairy free and ethically sourced, replaced with nestle crap? BOOOOOOOOOOOOO," another adds.

The sourcing of the cocoa is important to some shoppers, Reddit would indicate.

One Costco shopper even bragged about scoring some of the last Kirkland ones, writing, "Scored 3 bags of Kirkland brand a few weeks before they switched to evil Nestle. I'm good for 2 years lol."

Costco says the decision comes in light of the "rising costs of cocoa" across the globe.
