The historic Pontoon Bridge in Butte La Rose, Louisiana, is now reopened to the public, marking a significant milestone in the community.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 8:00 A.M., the two-lane Herman Dupuis Road Bridge, which occupies the same location as the former Pontoon Bridge, will welcome traffic once again.

Following its closure in February 2022, the Pontoon Bridge underwent a remarkable transformation. A new $9 million, two-lane bridge now stands in its place, promising enhanced safety and convenience for residents and visitors alike.

While the recently completed structure is ready for use, minor maintenance work will be carried out in the coming weeks. Specifically, the construction of a fender wall will require a temporary closure, lasting only one day. The closure is scheduled to take place from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on the designated day, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the St. Martin Parish Government.

Additionally, the bridge may experience another temporary closure within the next three to four months. This time, the closure will occur between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., lasting only a few hours. The purpose of this closure is to facilitate the installation of a rack gear system necessary for the bridge's swing feature to operate smoothly.

With these improvements and upcoming enhancements, the Butte La Rose community is undoubtedly excited about the restoration of its iconic Pontoon Bridge, solidifying its place as a cherished local landmark.
