The Lafayette Police Department has issued a traffic advisory for this Thursday (Aug. 1), due to the funeral procession of Senior Corporal Segus Jolivette. The community is advised to prepare for significant traffic disruptions as the procession makes its way through the city.

Sr. Cpl. Jolivette's funeral service will take place at Our Saviors Church, located at 202 Our Savior Church Blvd, Opelousas, LA 70570. The visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., with the service commencing at 1:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and law enforcement officers from across the nation.

Following the service, a large procession will travel back to Lafayette. Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. as the procession moves through the city. To minimize delays, residents are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this time.

The procession route will enter Lafayette on I-49, turn onto East Pont Des Mouton Road, proceed southbound on Moss Street, head westbound on West Willow Street, continue southbound on University Avenue, and finally turn onto West Pinhook Road, ending past Kaliste Saloom Road. Various intersections along this route will be temporarily closed as the procession passes and will reopen shortly after.

Local citizens are asked to plan ahead and use secondary routes to avoid delays.

Sr. Cpl. Segus Jolivette's wake will be a private event held tonight (Jul. 31) for family and members of the Lafayette and Opelousas Police Departments. The gravesite ceremony following the procession will also be private, reserved for immediate family and close friends.
