Honoring Those Who Served: Veterans Day Events In Acadiana And Louisiana
Veterans Day is a day to honor and celebrate the men and women who have served their country. The men and women of the United States Armed Forces give of themselves to serve the people of America.
According to the Veterans Administration, Veterans Day's origins date back to the First World War. While the treaty to end the war was not signed until June 1919, the fighting had stopped months before "when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month."
