Lafayette Police Department officials say a motorcyclist who was driving east on Pinhook was struck by a trash truck, and one person was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

Lafayette Police Department Spokeswoman Robin Green says that traffic investigators are looking into the crash. She says what they believe happened at the initial stage of the investigation is that the trash truck was driving down the road and was trying to pull into a parking lot while leaving another to collect garbage. The trash truck struck the motorcyclist who was in opposite lane.

The woman who was the passenger on the back of the motorcycle was severely injured. She is at a hospital receiving care according to Green. The woman is said to be in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the motorcycle and the driver of the truck had no injuries.

As you are driving around be aware that Pinhook Road eastbound between Kaliste Saloom Road and James Comeaux Road is closed.
