Lafayette Regional Airport Warning Acadiana Of ‘Green Dot MoneyPak Scam’
We just received some information from the Lafayette Regional Airport warning Acadiana of a scam called the "Green Dot MoneyPak Scam".
From Sides & Associates on behalf of Lafayette Regional Airport -
"Apparently, someone calls and claims to be with either Immigration in one case and the IRS in the other, and tells them they need to put money on prepaid cards, which the caller then tries to get them to give the caller the card number over the phone before they can receive anything.
Over the last two days, we have had two people instructed by a caller to go to Lafayette Regional Airport (one to go to the immigration office and the other to pick up a car she had “won.”)
There is no immigration office at the airport, and today when the gentlemen came looking for one and explained the situation, the airport security officer told him the whole thing was a scam. Same thing happened with the lady who came to pay taxes and license on the car she had “won” yesterday.
The BBB of Acadiana is aware of the scam and we are hoping you can help get word out that if a caller asks them to go to the airport to pick up something they are owed or won, they should disregard it."
