We all think about that time in our life when work is over and everyday is a day to enjoy. The "golden years" as they are often described are supposed to be filled with fishing, golf, gardening, volunteering, yelling at kids to get off your lawn, and actually showing up for jury duty. According to one financial planning website if you're planning to retire soon, you might want to move.

The financial planning website Bankrate.com recently published a report that indicated that Louisiana ranked as the 5th worst state in which to retire. The states that were worse than Louisiana for retirement were West Virginia at number 4, Alaska at number 3, New York at number 2 and the worst state to spend your retirement  years according to this report was Arkansas.

Among the reasons that Louisiana fared so poorly on the Bankrate.com scale was something that a lot of simply  have learned to live with.

"It is very warm in Louisiana, but it's also very humid, that puts you down in our rankings,"

Those are the words of Bankrate research analyst Chris Kahn who spoke to the Louisiana Radio Network about the state's ranking. Kahn went on to say there were other factors besides heat and hurricanes that figured into the state's low marks.

"If you look at the violent property crimes by the FBI in Louisiana, on the whole it's one of the highest in the country,"

I guess if you've never lived in Louisiana I could see why you might not want to retire here. But once you've lived in the Louisiana, it gets in your blood. There is a strong  connection between the incredible people and this incredible place. Are we perfect? Nope. Is this home? Your darn right it's home and despite her scars and blemishes that appear to those looking from outside, she seems to be a might pretty lady to me. The kind of lady a fellow could find a lot of happiness growing older with.
