Weather Service Ramps Up ‘Freeze Threat’ For Louisiana
(KMDL-FM) The weather in Louisiana is an enigma wrapped in mystery. We think we know what's about to happen, but then Mother Nature goes and shows us all who is boss. Such is the current forecast trend for Louisiana as we head into the weekend.
For most of the state, today and Saturday will feature wonderful autumn afternoons. In fact, the temperatures might be just a bit above normal during the day today and for those who will be enjoying college football games on Saturday. But Saturday night and Sunday, that's when things begin to change in the forecast for Louisiana.

We told you earlier this week that forecasters were expecting a cold snap for late in the weekend, but more likely next week. We are now getting a better look at what forecasters think might unfold for the I-10 corridor as we move through the weekend.

What Is Louisiana's Major Weather Concern on Friday Morning?
This morning's weather worry will be fog, especially in Louisiana's southwestern parishes. A dense fog advisory has already been posted for Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes. It looks as if a portion of Jeff Davis Parish might be included in that advisory as well.
This afternoon, temperatures should rise into the lower 80s, but breezes will pick up from the south. We can expect similar conditions on Saturday during the day. By Saturday evening, clouds will move into the area and bring with them a slight risk of showers. This is courtesy of an approaching Canadian cold front.
What Are The Chances of a Freeze or Frost in Louisiana This Weekend?
When you wake up Sunday morning, you will notice conditions will be significantly cooler. The afternoon high on Sunday will likely be reached early in the day as temperatures start to drop rapidly behind the cold front.
Monday morning temperatures will start near 40 degrees along the coast and get colder the further inland and north you travel. Monday's afternoon high will only be 54, and that will be accompanied by a stiff breeze, so it will feel much cooler than the actual temperature.
By Tuesday morning, temperatures could be at the freezing mark along and north of US 190 and perhaps as far south as I-10. Regardless, the time below freezing won't be that long, and by Friday of next week, we should rebound with temperatures approaching 80 degrees as we head into next weekend.
