The casual college baseball fan didn't know too much about Stony Brook University's baseball program before Friday afternoon. It didn't take long for us to find out, the Sea Wolves are a darn good baseball team. The NCAA Baseball Super Regional tournament at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge was supposed to be a mere formality before Tiger fans and faithful packed their bags for Omaha. Somebody forgot to tell Stony Brook that they were playing the might LSU Tigers.

It didn't matter the Sea Wolves were unfazed by the home crowd, the boisterous fans and the atmosphere of "The Box". Stony Brook took LSU to extra innings in the first game before finally losing in the 12th. The Sea Wolves proved their tenacity in game two winning 3-1 and last night the LSU faithful piled into their cars and trucks shaking their heads in disbelief.

Stony Brook 7, LSU 2 was the final and that punched the Sea Wolves ticket to their first ever college world series. For LSU it was a good season but not a great season. Great seasons end hoisting a trophy at Rosenblatt Stadium, not shaking your head in the dressing room after falling in the Super Regional.
