Well, this could not only be big news for the New Orleans Saints, but major news for the rest of the NFL as well.

The Saints have apparently begun preliminary talks on a contract extension with star receiver Michael Thomas.

This is obviously big news for Saints fans, who want to keep the popular Thomas around for a long time, and with good reason.

Over his first three seasons in the league, Thomas has accumulated 321 catches for 3,787 yards and 23 touchdowns.

In 2018, the 26-year old Thomas caught 125 passes for 1,405 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Of course, putting up those kind of numbers will make you some serious money, and Thomas is indeed in line for a major raise.

Thomas is scheduled to only make $1.15 million in the final year of of his rookie deal in 2019, but he may soon become the highest paid receiver in football.

Currently, Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham is the top receiver in the league, in terms of salary, scheduled to make a reported $18 million in 2019.

This could be major news for the entire NFL, especially receivers, because if the Saints and Thomas do reach an agreement, it could set a new salary bar, which everyone will try to eclipse.
