The Office of Juvenile Justice relocated minors from Angola just a day after an appeals court had voted to halt a federal order making the removal mandatory. The OJJ contacted officials in Jackson Parish who just opened a new juvenile justice facility this year. They are already serving youth in local programs and they can provide temporary housing while the new state-run Swanson secure care facility is completed.
Reports are saying that a corrections officer at the Louisiana State Penitentiary has been booked into jail after attempting to smuggle contraband into Angola. Included in the contraband was a slew of items including cell phones, video games, and tobacco products.
Obviously the state has a federal mandate to keep the most wretched criminals of the criminal community cool and comfortable while they enjoy their stay as guests of the Louisiana taxpayer.
