Reports say that the announcement was made concerning the permanent end of Cargill's salt production at their mine located in Avery Island, Louisiana. The mine has been operated by the company for twenty-four years and the outlook for its' employees is still uncertain.
I first visited Jungle Gardens at Avery Island when I was about 18-year-old. I was blown away by how beautiful and unique the entire area was. I didn't know anything about the area when I first visited, and when I happened upon the Buddha sanctuary I was floored. It was hard to believe I was still in Louisiana. I got to thinking about the statue today, and decided to learn more about how the Buddha statue found it's way to Avery Island, and here's what I found out.
It is without a doubt that Louisiana is one of the most beautiful and unique states in the country. We have a culture and landscape that is all our own with incredible sites that are a must see for all.
The higher ups at Avery Island's Tabasco plant are listening to what guests want! They will be building a bigger and better Tabasco visitor's center, and now offer an expansion of tours revolving around cajun culture.
