I never thought I'd be much of a smartphone person. And now I'm like the rest of America in that I can't sit down and watch a 30-minute newscast without checking social media or one of my 87 apps.

Oh, and speaking of those apps, have they come a long way. Seems like back in the beginning of them boogers, we'd just want solitaire and perhaps a news source's app. Not so much anymore.

Social media and entertainment seem to rule the roost.

Apple just released their list of the 10 most downloaded apps of the year and here they are:

  1. Snapchat
  2. Facebook Messenger
  3. "Pokemon Go"
  4. Instagram
  5. Facebook
  6. YouTube
  7. Google Maps
  8. Pandora
  9. Netflix
  10. Spotify

And here's something interesting -- the top app from 2015 didn't even make the list this year. It was the game called "Trivia Crack".

The top paid app of the year was Ellen Degeneres' game "Heads Up" for the second year in a row.
