Look Back Lafayette: 30 Memories of the Last 30 Years

(KMDL-FM) How many of you can remember exactly where you were 30 years ago? I know that's a tough question when most of us can't remember what we had for breakfast or to use our turn signals on the Evangeline Thruway.

Thirty years is a long time to be in one place. For a lot of us, that one place has been in and around the city of Lafayette. In those decades, we have seen a lot of changes. Some of those changes have made us proud. Many of them have left us with more questions than we had to begin with. And some of those changes won't really be enjoyed by our generation; they will become the treasures of future residents of the Hub City.

In my time in Lafayette, my family and I have experienced a lot of things. We've learned what hurricanes can do, we've seen what afternoon thunderstorms can do, we've seen seven inches of snow on our patio table, and we've had electronic equipment melt in our cars because of the heat.

What Has Changed in Lafayette Over the Past 30 Years?

We have seen episodes of tremendous tragedy, and in those tragedies, we have seen the spirit of this amazing place wrap its arms around and comfort those who need it the most.

Yeah, we were here in 2005 when the Cajundome became an evacuation shelter for hurricane victims. We were here that violent July night at the Grand Theater. We watched the goal posts from Cajun Field leave the stadium one night. And we bowed our heads at the news of a man who was more than a baseball coach's passing.
