The holidays are here and you'll be around family and friends for extended periods of time. We all know what the means, we'll need a drink or twelve!

Nutrition experts have come up with a list of the best foods to eat before you drink. They all prevent alcohol from absorbing too quickly and are a tad healthier than say, a pizza.

Here are the top eight:

  1. Milk - It's high in potassium, which you start running low on when you're peeing a lot. Plus, milk is 90% water and that'll help you stay hydrated.
  2. Yogurt with Granola - It lines the inside of your stomach and your body takes six hours to digest it.
  3. Hummus - Just like yogurt, it lines your stomach. And if you eat it with vegetables, the nutrients can help prevent a hangover.
  4. Salmon - It's high in B-12, and alcohol can cause a B-12 deficiency.
  5. Spaghetti - It'll absorb some of the alcohol, and the carbs will give you more energy.
  6. Grilled Chicken Sandwich - The protein takes a while to digest which prevents you from getting drunk too quickly. And then the carbs give you energy just like spaghetti.
  7. Cereal - Especially if it's high-fiber, which slows down the absorption of alcohol.
  8. Eggs - They have a lot of protein and amino acids that break down the alcohol.
