Today marks the 19th Anniversary no one ever wanted, but the one none of us can ever let ourselves forget. To commemorate, there a few 9/11 ceremonies across Acadina today.

This year's 9/11 ceremonies in Acadiana and across the country tricky due to COVID-19. As a result, some ceremonies will be live streamed.

Flag Changing Ceremony At Parc San Souci

There will still be a flag-changing ceremony at the memorial with the aid of the Lafayette Fire Department Honor Guard. The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 11.

The flag was flown over the USS Arlington.

KATC will live steam the event on the KATC Facebook page.

 

UL Lafayette Virtual 9/11 Memorial

The Student Veterans Organization, along with the Ragin' Cajun Veteran Alumni Association and the Veterans Service Office, will hold a virtual memorial on Facebook Live for the two UL Lafayette alumni killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The memorial will be held on Friday, September 11, from 9:11 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the UL Lafayette Pentagon Monument in the Alumni Center Garden located at 600 E. Saint Mary Blvd.

Siew-Na Ang, Electrical Engineering, USL, 88. Killed in WTC attack. Robert Hymel, Industrial Engineering, USL'69. USAF, Lt. Col, B-52 pilot, Vietnam and Desert Storm. Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross. Killed in Pentagon Attack.

The ceremony can be viewed on the UL Lafayette Alumni Association Facebook page.

St. Landry Parish

In St. Landry Parish, Fire District 4 and the Cankton Police Department will conduct a small September 11 memorial ceremony beginning at 9:00 am.

The group will march with flags from the church to city hall where a blessing a speech will honor the lives lost.
