AES Advances To State Baseball Finals

The LHSAA high school baseball semifinals are underway, with one team from the Acadiana area advancing to a state title game, while another was eliminated.

The Ascension Episcopal Blue Gators will play for the Division IV state title in the Select Bracket, after blanking Houma Christian, 3-0, on Wednesday at McMurry Park in Sulphur.

The #11-seed, Ascension Episcopal will play for their first-ever state championship on Friday at 7 pm, against top-seeded Central Catholic, who defeated Ascension Catholic, 5-4.

Unfortunately, Episcopal of Acadiana didn't fare as well, as they fell to Claiborne Christian, 11-1, and were eliminated from the Division V bracket, after a fine season.

That leaves 5 local teams still alive in the state baseball playoffs.

In the Non-Select bracket, only Breaux Bridge is still alive, with St. Thomas More, Teurlings Catholic, Opelousas Catholic, and Ascension Episcopal remaining in the Select bracket.

Semifinal round play continues on Thursday, at McMurry Park in Sulphur. with the finals for all classifications set for May 12-13.

Three local schools are in action on Thursday, with Opelousas Catholic, the top-seed in the Division III bracket, taking on 4th-seeded Riverside Academy at 10 am, with Teurlings and St. Thomas More, the #3 and #10 seeds, respectively, in the Division II bracket, scheduled to meet one another at 1:30.

Breaux Bridge, the 2nd-seed in the Class 4A bracket, will play their semifinal game, against Tioga, the 3rd-seed, on Friday at 1:30 pm.
