(KMDL-FM) There is a fairly strong chance that sometime between now and the end of the year, you'll board an airplane, hopefully for a fun adventure. But seasoned travelers know the adventure truly begins the moment you walk into the airport. That's when you'll start seeing things that you won't normally see in everyday life.

Louisiana has seven commercial airports, three of which are international airports, but only one actually serves overseas destinations for commercial passengers. And regardless of which Louisiana airport you visit, and no matter what time you visit, you will see things you wouldn't see in everyday life.

It's almost as if when you cross the threshold and enter the airport's space, the rules of society bend. And in the cases of many of you, you believe that the rules of physical science will bend on your behalf. Many of you also believe that social decorum and personal courtesy don't apply within the walls of an airport.

And the strange sense of entitlement many people feel once they walk into an airport only grows more incredulous once those individuals step on the plane. Admit it, you've seen the "jetway freaker mom" yelling at her kids, the super entitled take-my-own-damn-sweet-time to stow my bag in the overhead guy, and I personally seem to be right behind "not-strong-enough-to-lift-my carry-on lady".

Okay, it's nothing as cool as walking on water, although I have seen many an air traveler wobble on water mixed with Johnnie Walker Black. I think I heard that in a song somewhere. Regardless, when you're seven miles closer to heaven, amazing things happen.

For example, you might also have witnessed an inflight miracle. I saw a woman who needed a wheelchair and extra time to board in Rome, Italy, suddenly be able to get up on her own, carry her own bag, and sprint to customs when we landed in Atlanta. God is good. She got the gift of physical health, I got peanuts and a Coke, and we were both flying coach.
