Reports of a Pineville, Louisiana police officer getting shot in an ambush spread like wildfire this week; now we know the truth.

The officer claimed that he suffered a gunshot wound in the leg on Sunday when he was ambushed while exiting his vehicle in a parking lot.

Pineville Police Department now says that there was no ambush and that the wounds were self-inflicted:

Deputy Chief Darrell Basco of the Administrative Bureau says that, in effect, the ambush story was fabricated. The officer, John Goulart, Jr., has been placed on leave and charged with malfeasance in office and criminal mischief.
