American Horror Story tapped into a bonafide gold mine when they cast Lady Gaga as Hotel character The Countess. Not only did she win a Golden Globe for her performance, but she signed on for Season 6, and -- intentional or not -- her latest single "Perfect Illusion" serves as a fitting soundtrack for the speculation surrounding the show's unannounced theme.

American Horror Story’s latest trailer incorporates all of its various teasers, this time set to Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion” — a direct reference to the show runners’ purposeful misdirections in regards to the forthcoming season’s plot.

Show creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk opted out of their typical thematic announcement, choosing to take a new approach to unveiling Season 6’s plot, instead. They released several video teasers, most of which are entirely unrelated to the show’s overarching theme, leaving viewers unsure of what to expect from the upcoming installment.

“John Landgraf [of FX] and Dana Walden [of Fox TV Group] and I were talking, and the show is in its sixth season, and we’ve always done everything by the book,” Murphy said, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Come January or February I announce what the theme is, and then we announce the cast. We wanted to [create a] different experience for the fans this year. But that doesn’t mean we’ll do that for season seven or even season eight.”

Check out the new "Perfect Illusion"-incorporating trailer above, and find out what the official Season 6 theme is when American Horror Story finally returns to FX on September 14.
