19-Year-Old Killed in 9-Vehicle Baton Rouge Crash

BATON ROUGE, La. - A Sunday afternoon drive in Baton Rouge turned into a devastating scene after a massive crash involving nine vehicles left a 19-year-old dead and several other people injured.

The wreck happened shortly before noon near the intersection of North Foster Drive and Prescott Road, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

A 19-year-old driver has died as a result of the crash. Seven other people were taken to area hospitals, and one of those injured was reported to be in critical condition.

What happened In The North Foster Drive Crash?

According to WBRZ.com, the chain reaction started when the driver of a Kia Sorento traveling in the left lane struck the rear driver's side door of the Malibu.

The impact sent both vehicles spinning into oncoming traffic.

Police said the Kia then struck another vehicle, causing two of the vehicles to roll. Another vehicle subsequently crashed into the Malibu.

By the time everything came to a stop, nine vehicles were involved in the wreck.

The crash left several vehicles badly damaged, including a red sedan that was crushed. One of the vehicles involved also ended up against cars parked near a nearby church.

Police said 19-year-old Terrance Ruffin, who was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, died as a result of the crash.

Seven Other People Were Injured

While Ruffin was killed, seven other people were transported to hospitals following the crash.

One of the injured victims was in critical condition, according to Baton Rouge police.

Emergency crews had a major response on their hands as they worked to treat the people involved and deal with the wreckage scattered across the area.

Toni Holliday who witnessed the scene told WBRZ -

It literally looked like a scene from a horror movie. It had cars out there, it had people screaming and hollering. It had people laying on the ground. We have accidents all the time, but not to this extent.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and additional information could be released as police continue working to determine exactly what happened.
