How Does Louisiana Rank In National Beer Consumption?

(KMDL-FM) An Internet think tank has revealed the findings of a nationwide study regarding beer in America. Here in Louisiana, we are big fans of beer, at least I thought we were until I saw the findings of the study.

What's even more confusing to me is that not only are we down the list in beer consumption, but our "favorite" beer in Louisiana isn't one that I see ordered or consumed that often.

If you visit any Louisiana festival, you will see a lot of people enjoying a beer. In our studies of Louisiana beer consumption, we have found that most people say their beer of choice is "cold," followed very closely by "free". But this study is about beer brands that you have to buy or have someone buy for you.

Louisiana Favorite Beer is Popular in Several Other States Too.

Would you believe that, according to this study, people in Louisiana, New York, Washington DC, Hawaii, and North Carolina all prefer the same brand of barley malt beverage? When is the last time Louisiana, New York, and our nation's capital agreed on anything? That just goes to show you the power of beer.

The beer brand of choice in Louisiana and those other states? Stella Artois. It's also the favorite in Florida, Georgia, and Arizona, and I am surprised by that information. Stella Artois is a great beer, but I have never seen anyone actually order one. They must; I probably don't hang out in the right bars.

By the way, Stella Artois isn't the name of a single real person. The Artois comes from Sébastien Artois, the brewmaster who is responsible for the recipe. The Stella is the Latin word for "star". So this beer is Sebastien Artois' Star.

Which States Drink the Most Beer? Which States Drink the Least Beer?

The state that leads in beer consumption is Wisconsin, followed by Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and New Hampshire. The states that don't have a taste for beer include Alaska, Utah, Georgia, Washington, and Mississippi. Louisiana is about midpack in beer consumption; we are ranked number 34 out of 51.

Michelob Ultra earned the top spot as far as most favorite beer among all states other brands represented on the list include Blue Moon, Bud Light, Corona, Fat Tire, Natural Light, Busch Light, Pacifico, Guinness, Samuel Adams, Yuengling, Hamm's, Budweiser, Peroni, Keystone, Coors, Coors Light, Rolling Rock, Dos Equis, Carlseberg, Labatts's Blue, and Rainier Beer.
