Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser has announced that the Blue Pelican Slush, a drink created in honor of the state bird, is expanding statewide in partnership with Sonic.

Starting October 1, all 138 Sonic locations across Louisiana began selling the Blue Pelican Slush, with the promotion running through March 31, 2027.

How the Blue Pelican Slush Got Its Start in Amite

The drink blends Sprite, blue coconut flavoring and sweet cream into a refreshing slush. The drink was originally created by Nungesser in collaboration with carhops at the Amite Sonic Drive-In before growing into the statewide partnership now rolled out across the state.

The Cause Behind the Slush: Keep Louisiana Beautiful

The drink is the result of a partnership between Sonic and the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Foundation, with 100% of the proceeds going toward supporting the foundation's mission of keeping Louisiana's waterways and communities clean and litter-free.

"We are so excited to expand this partnership statewide, and I hope to see everyone drinking their Blue Pelicans soon!" Nungesser said in announcing the news. "Keep Louisiana Beautiful."

The statewide rollout builds on that original, grassroots version of the drink and marks a larger push to get residents across the state involved in supporting litter-prevention and beautification efforts through something as simple as a seasonal slush run.
