ARNAUDVILLE, La. - Two men from Breaux Bridge lost their lives in a single-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of July 1, 2026, in St. Landry Parish.

What Investigators Say Happened on LA 686

Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to the crash on Louisiana Highway 686 near Moise Mallet Road shortly after 3 a.m. According to investigators, a 2010 Chevrolet Impala was traveling west on LA 686 when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve. The vehicle entered a ditch and overturned.

Both Victims Were Unrestrained and Ejected from the Vehicle

Both occupants, 32-year-old Kiemonte Pigott and 30-year-old Darius Haywood, were unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. Pigott died at the scene. Haywood was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and later succumbed to his wounds.

Impairment is unknown at this time. A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

State Police Reminder: Seat Belts Save Lives in Louisiana

State Police noted that neither victim was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing a seat belt dramatically reduces the risk of severe injury or death. Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants, regardless of seating position, to remain properly restrained at all times.

The investigation is ongoing.
