Carnival to Launch First Roller Coaster on a Cruise Ship
Last week Carnival Cruise Line announced they were building a new ship and naming it Mardi Gras, set to sail in 2020. It will be the biggest ship in their fleet.
And on Thursday, Carnival announced a pretty neat addition to Mardi Gras -- a roller coaster!
The coaster will be called BOLT and it will circle the top of the ship.
The all-electric coaster will allow people to strap in and race along almost 800 feet of track, 187 feet above sea level. The cars will travel nearly 40 mph and take riders on a series of twists, turns and drops, right around the ship's whale-tail funnel.
As previously announced, Mardi Gras will be based at a new terminal at Port Canaveral, Florida and will be the first in the new XL-class of larger ships built for Carnival.
