Charlotte Rae, aka Mrs. Garrett from The Facts of Life, Dies at 92
A television legend has gone on to that big tube in the sky.
Charlotte Rae from 'Diff'rent Strokes" and its spin-off "The Facts of Life" passed away yesterday at her home in Los Angeles. She was 92.
She played Edna Garrett, aka Mrs. G, on both shows.
Rae notched an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy in 1982. She also did two "Facts of Life" TV movies.
There's no word yet on cause of death but she was diagnosed with bone cancer last year.
Coincidentally, just two days before she passed, a "Facts of Life" reboot was announced by Leonardo Dicaprio and Jessica Biel. They aren't going to be on the new show, just executive producers.
The original series ran for nine seasons on NBC from 1979 to 1988. There were a total of 209 episodes.
Charlotte Rae was married once, to a TV and film composer named John Strauss. The two were married from 1951 until they divorced in 1976 when he came out as bisexual. They have two sons together, Larry and Andrew.
