LaughFest 2012 kicked off yesterday in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The festival is a 10-day comedy extravaganza inspired by the late comedienne Gilda Radner.

To help kick off the event, festival goers donned chicken beaks and danced to the "Chicken Dance" in an attempt to break a world record.

Some 607 people sporting the yellow chompers jived for a total of 11 minutes and 39 seconds. The folks at the Guinness Book of World Records mandated that the dance be at least 10 minutes long.

Details of the stunt will be forwarded to Guinness World Records for certification.

Radner’s brother, Michael Radner, of Detroit, returned for the second time to encourage the participants in yesterday's stunt.

“Gilda loved to make people laugh, and people loved to laugh at her,” he said. “This event is so wonderful because it leaves so many people laughing.”
