
Controversial Bills in the Upcoming Legislative Session
If you care at all about minimum wage, sick leave, abortion, LGBT Rights, the use of monkeys as service animals, designation of an official state butterfly, marijuana use, or criminal history on job applications, then you need to pay close attention to some of the bills being considered for the upcoming Louisiana Legislative session. More than 1,200 bills were already filed by the March 4 deadline, and some are below.Be sure to check out some of the other extremely controversial bills outlined by our friends at the Gambit.
HOUSE BILLS
HB 4 - Allows anyone over 21 to carry a concealed handgun without a permit
HB 69 - Requires 10-day waiting period for gun purchases
HB 94 - would allow the use of monkeys as 'service animals'
HB 597- Allows religious groups to snub same-sex marriage ceremonies
HB 386 - Extends the mandatory waiting period for an abortion
HB 151 - Prohibits 'sanctuary cities'
HB 153 - Prohibits felons from qualifying for or holding public office
HB 231 - would create the "Ban the Box for State Contracts Act" which would prohibit certain contractors from inquiring about a job applicant's criminal history on a job application.
SENATE BILLS
SB 212 - Requires employers to give workers paid sick leave
SB 269 - Increases the state minimum wage to $8 an hour
SB 271 - Expands medical marijuana law
SB 332 - Adds sexual orientation and gender identity to discrimination laws
And a bill to Let hunters wear "blaze pink" instead of just "hunter orange
