LAFAYETTE, La. - Another day, another Acadiana business closure to report. This time, it's a legendary grocery store and restaurant.

The Corner Pantry's Farewell Message to Lafayette

The owners of The Corner Pantry took to social media to announce the store will finally be closing after 60 years in business. The farewell post read in part:

For 60 incredible years, we have had the honor of being a staple in this wonderful community. We’ve watched generations grow up, shared countless memories, and built relationships that we will carry with us forever. While we are sad to say Goodbye, our family Thanks you for your loyalty, trust, and support over the past six decades. You made our time here unforgettable. Thank you Lafayette for ALL the years!

The Corner Pantry is located at 801 Foreman Drive in Lafayette and is owned by Connie Dubose.

Going-Out-of-Business Sale: 50% Off Groceries at The Corner Pantry

The store is currently holding a bit of a going-out-of-business sale where grocery items are 50% off, with some exceptions.

What's Coming Next: Catering Continues and a Gas Station for the Property

According to a comment by Dubose's daughter in the above Facebook post, Connie will continue the catering side of the business in a new but smaller location. That's likely part of the "exciting announcement coming soon" from the same Facebook post.

As for what is going to happen to the property, The Acadiana Advocate has reported that new owners will build a gas station on the site.

Lafayette City Council Voted to Allow Gas Station Permit

You may recall a few months ago that the Lafayette City Council voted in favor of a conditional use permit to allow a Grab-N-Geaux convenience store to open on the property. However, there were restrictions put in place, including allowing only right-in and right-out movements onto Dulles Drive to minimize traffic congestion.

The store will have six fuel pumps, according to renderings. We'll keep tabs on the progress of this new gas station and report back when more news is available regarding the construction of it and eventual opening.
