Elisabeth Leger Trahan of Crowley, Louisiana has entered a nationwide baking competition and needs Acadiana to help her win it. All we have to do is vote for her.

I have entered a nationwide baking competition, which requires many many many votes! Help me call upon the Cajun Navy. I don't need boats...I just need votes! Anyone with a Facebook account can vote and share. It costs nothing! Let's show them that Louisiana people know a thing or two about food.-Elisabeth Leger

What is your signature bake?

My most asked for is my white cake with a vanilla custard filling and my signature whipped buttercream icing. It's simple, yet everything comes together and creates a unique delicate taste.

How long have you been baking?

I have been baking for over 45 years. By age 6, I was baking cookies and cakes. At age 18, I baked my first wedding cake. By 20, I was working in a bakery, baking pastries and bread of all sorts as well as decorating cakes.

What is your best baking secret?

I have so many it's hard to choose...I Always use cake strips! If I don't have the correct size, I use an old t-shirt, cutting the bottom straight across in about a 2-inch strip, wet it thoroughly and use it as a band around my cake pans. This keeps the outer edges from turning brown and also prevents the middle from overrising so your cake comes out nice and even with no need to trim the top!

Leger says she's holding strong in 4th place nationwide.

I made it to the 2nd round and am currently holding strong in 4th place in my division. Elisabeth Leger
