Louisiana cruise line guests who sail out of the Port of New Orleans or the Port of Galveston in Texas generally have one question as soon as the huge ships have cleared the dock and are underway. That question, "What time does the casino open"?

You see, besides eating, lounging, drinking, and sightseeing what else is there to do on a cruise ship besides gamble? Most Louisiana cruise guests seem to mix in a little of all of the above on their cruise vacations but based on news that is being reported many of you might want to spend a little bit more time in the casino, both on the ship and on land.

You're familiar with rewards programs, right? Most cruise lines offer them to their guests as a way to build brand loyalty. Typically on a cruise, you earn rewards points for the nights you stay and the activities you participate in.

Most cruise lines have a separate rewards program set up for their casinos though. Usually, those points add up while you're playing and the cruise line lets you roll them over for the next calendar year.

Again the hope is that you'll want to use those points on one of their ships when you sail on your next cruise. But much like the vessels that they are stationed on, cruise ship casinos can tend to feel as if they are islands. Not only in the literal sense of the word but isolated from one of the perks that land-based casinos have.  Among those perks is the ability to earn rewards points and win high progressive jackpots.
