Nobody wants to think they are not safe in their own home, but in reality, a little preparation and common sense can save you a whole lot of money and heartache.

  • Dryers - over 2,900 fires caused by dryers each year, according to FEMA. That's over $35 million dollars in property damage.
  • Oven Cleaner - these chemicals are caustic and corrosive, and can cause damage not only on your skin, but in the fumes they emit after the oven is turned on.
  • Swimming Pools - over 3,536 people are killed by drowning in the USA each year, and a lot of those are at private pools, according to the CDC
  • Magnets - According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, if ingested, these can cause intestinal perforations, obstructions, and bleeding. They can also lead to death
  • Candles - the National Fire Prevention Association says that 3% of all home fires are started by candles, and that there are at least 25 candle related fires started every day across America
  • Chipped Paint - if inhaled or ingested, lead poisoning and death could occur, and that is not the only household items that potentially contain lead. Toys, cosmetics and other everyday items made overseas have been known to me made with lead
  • Hot Tubs - drowning, heat related injuries, and flesh eating bacteria. Do we need to say more?
  • Lawn Mowers - The Consumer Product Safety Commission says these cause over 83,000 injuries a year. And that's just in the United States.
  • Non stick cookware - metal flakes from an old pot or pan can taint your food, and can even emit dangerous fumes in your kitchen
  • Extension Cords - these have caused over 3,300 falls each year, and 4,000 dangerous falls
