It's a big number but it's based on almost ten year - old data.

I was reading Lafayette's Wikipedia entry and thought this was a pretty amazing bit of trivia: as of the 2010 census, there were 2, 317 people living in just one square mile of Lafayette proper. That number has to be a lot bigger nine years later. This is not really a huge surprise to anyone sitting in traffic on Ambassador or Johnston (at any time of the day, mind you) or noticing just how many housing developments pop up every day in the city itself and surrounding parts of the parish.

These stats make interesting trivia but also point out just how many people decide to live in Lafayette, which was named the 'Happiest City In The U.S.' back in 2014.
