The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development wants everyone to be safe as we are gearing up for Hurricane Laura. If you are evacuating south Louisiana before Laura hits landfall tonight, you might encounter some major traffic snarls. Delays are pretty much the norm for people trying to get out of the way of an impending storm, and DOTD has some help if you are stuck in your car trying to leave.

According to WAFB in Baton Rouge, DOTD is recommending "drivers use northbound routes like I-49, US 61, or I-55 to get to I-20 W to avoid severe weather on I-10 in the western part of the state due to Hurricane Laura. Drivers should use 511 to find the best route to take."
