Duson Couple Honored As State’s Longest Married
It's Valentine's Day. A day to celebrate love everlasting and in the case of a Duson couple, they are well on the way to forever.
The year was 1937 when two young people met at Mike's Dance Hall which was located somewhere between Abbeville and Lafayette. Those two young people fell in love and have been loving each other for the past 80 plus years.
Wallace and Gladys Menard, now both well into their 90's was that young couple then and they are still an item together after a honeymoon that's lasted over 80 years. The couple was honored at a gathering on Wednesday with special recognition from the State of Louisiana as the longest married couple in the state.
The Menards were presented with a certificate signed by Governor Edwards proclaiming them as the state's longest married couple on this Valentine's Day. We can only hope to find such a love in our life and then be able to share so many days, months, weeks, and years together with the one we were intended to share forever.
