It was his vision that brought to life so many  memorable moments on television and in movies for a generation of Americans. He was Garry Marshall. His list of TV hits reads like a hall of fame for those who grew up in the late 70's and 80's. He then went on to make movies in the late 80's, 90's and into the new millennium that the same generation of Americans would list as their favorites of all time.

Garry Marshall died yesterday afternoon he was 81.

Some of Garry Marshall's work that you might be most familiar with include the following movies:

He was the director for Beaches in 1988, Pretty Woman in 1990, Runaway Bride in 1999, The Princess Diaries in 2001,The Princess Diaries 2; Royal Engagement in 2004, Georgia Rule in 2007. 

His Television accomplishments include writing or producing credits on such iconic shows as: The Danny Thomas Show (aka Make Room for Daddy) , The Dick Van Dyke Show , The Lucy Show, Gomer Pyle USMC, The Odd Couple, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Love, American Style, Mork and Mindy, and Joanie Loves Chachi.

There were countless other movies and television shows that Marshall worked on either as a writer, producer, or director. His movies and TV programs launched the careers of so many famous actors and actresses the list to too long to recount.

Marshall is survived by his wife Barbara, their three children and two sisters including Penny Marshall who starred in Laverne and Shirley. The cause of death is believed to be complications from pneumonia after having a stroke. Marshall was 81.
