Erath High School celebrated its 70th homecoming last week. There were all the traditional fun celebrations for the students all week long and the festivities culminated with the crowning of the homecoming queen on Friday night.

But, what happened on Friday afternoon is what still has the small Vermilion Parish town buzzing.

You see, in 1950, Ida Katherine Sandoz Landry was named the very first Erath High Homecoming Queen. The pageantry was not as grand back then as it is now. Mrs. Ida didn't even get a crown.

She's got one now.

At the Erath High Homecoming Pep Rally held on Friday at Erath High, Mrs. Ida was invited to take part in the festivities. It was at this event that Principal Marc Turner did something that Mrs. Ida will never forget -- he "crowned" her.

Mrs. Ida's daughter-in-law Lynn Landry captured the moment on video.

Y'all, how cher is this.

Later that day, Mrs. Ida was able to ride in a red convertible, with her family at her side, for the Erath High Homecoming Parade.

Then, on Friday night, she was on hand to help name, crown and congratulate the 70th Homecoming Queen, Izzy Esteb.

Check out this cool video that the folks at the Erath School and Community News Facebook page put together. And enjoy your forever reign as queen Mrs. Ida.
