The Board of Trustees at Oregon State University has hired F. King Alexander to become that school's next president. The appointment will be officials as of July 1st of next year. In order to fulfill that appointment, Alexander has tendered his resignation as President of Louisiana State University effective December 31, 2019.

Alexander took over the LSU job in 2013. Prior to his coming to LSU Alexander served as President of Cal State Long Beach and Murray State University. Alexander will be taking over the job in Corvallis Oregon from Ed Ray who has served as President of Oregon State for almost twenty years.

Alexander told reporters he was drawn to Oregon State because of his affinity for land-grant institutions. Those are universities and schools that were established by Congress during the Civil War to focus studies on agriculture, science, and engineering. LSU is one of those such universities.

Thomas Galligan, dean of LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, will serve as the interim president while the LSU Board of Supervisors conducts a national search for Alexander’s replacement.
