LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - We now know the name of the woman killed in the tragic crash on Sunday night.

Lafayette Police say 66-year-old Ada Davis of Lafayette was in the middle of the roadway in the 1600 block of Bertrand Drive when she was struck by a vehicle's passenger side mirror as the vehicle was traveling northbound in the inside lane.

Officers say intoxication or impairment is not suspected in the crash. The investigation continues.

A female pedestrian is now dead after Lafayette Police say she was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a roadway on Sunday evening.

Officers responded to the scene of the crash - the 1600 block of Bertrand Drive - around 6:49 PM. This is the area near where Bertrand Drive intersects with Eraste Landry Road.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene from her injuries.

The Lafayette Police Department Traffic Division is handling the investigation.

Pedestrian Death By Street Name Petition Circulating

Meanwhile, a Broussard woman sickening by the recent rash of pedestrian-involved crashes has decided to do what she can to help raise more awareness of where they are happening in hopes of preventing as many of these crashes as she can.

Edna Guillory has started a petition to ask the State of Louisiana to publish statistics on pedestrian deaths by highway/street in Louisiana. She, along with this article, points out some of the least pedestrian-friendly areas in Lafayette - Pinhook Road, the stretch between Mudd and Willow Streets, and Evangeline Thruway, just to name a few.
