Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a fire this afternoon at the Alvin's Island beach store in Destin.

Alvin's Island owns multiple stores along U.S. Highway 98, but this location (Store #11) is reportedly one of the oldest buildings along the Destin highway, built long before the area became a huge tourist destination.

There were major delays as firefighters fought the blaze for hours and based on the last update, the eastbound lanes were reopened around 4:45 p.m. this afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment, but crews battled the blaze at the Alvin's Island location near Airport road.

The Okaloosa Sheriff's Department has been providing updates and as of this moment, there are no reported injuries.

We will continue to update this post with details as they're confirmed.
