Flood Warnings Extend Across South Louisiana: More Rain Approaching
(KMDL-FM) Forecasters with the National Weather Service say more flooding rains are possible in South Louisiana and along the I-10 corridor again today. Yesterday afternoon, a deluge stranded some motorists beneath underpasses in Lafayette, and based on today’s forecast, those kinds of downpours are again possible this afternoon.

Over the weekend, much of South Louisiana was inundated with heavy downpours. It hasn’t rained all the time, but when it has rained, it has rained really hard. These downpours have prompted a Flood Warning from the National Weather Service. The current warning is for the Vermilion River at Lafayette, Bayou Vermilion near Carencro, and the Calcasieu River near Glenmora.
Meanwhile, National Weather Service Radar confirms that more showers and storms are moving toward Louisiana this morning. The heaviest showers and storms are right along the Sabine River just west of Lake Charles, and then there is a larger area of even more significant showers and storms moving out of the Houston, Texas, metro this morning.
When Will Heavy Rain Move Into Acadiana on Monday?
These showers and storms will affect Acadiana later this morning and early afternoon. In fact, the National Weather Service Forecast Office is projecting the area will see the strong showers and storms between two and three this afternoon. Unfortunately, that puts the worst of the weather arriving about the same time as school pick-up.
There is a marginal risk that some of this afternoon’s showers and storms could reach severe limits. The Storm Prediction Center has the southeastern third of the state included in that risk. There is also a marginal risk of excessive rainfall today.
Excessive rainfall is when it rains harder than drainage systems can handle, resulting in street flooding. We could see more of that today, especially this afternoon.
